I have been doing Graphics for more than 5 years now, and I’m always trying to push myself to get better at Design and work on my own unique style. I studied fine art for a couple years so I like to draw out all my work before I put it into the computer.

Some printing specifics

What is bleed? Bleed is a printing term that refers to printing that goes beyond the edge of the sheet before trimming. In other words, the bleed is the area to be trimmed off. The bleed is the part on the side of a document that gives the printer a small amount of space to account for movement of the paper, and design inconsistencies. Artwork and background colors can extend into the bleed area. After trimming, the bleed ensures that no unprinted edges occur in the final trimmed document.

Final print version should always be flat and CMYK. Flatten all your artwork and then switch your document to a CMYK document before sending to the printer. We recommend always sending a PDF file which can be saved from Photoshop. Save as “Photoshop PDF”.

The printer will most likely be using an offset press to print the posters. If your posters are setup as RGB they will ask you to change it, which will add another day to the printing process. When designing, work in RGB, flatten your files and then change to CMYK for print. ALWAYS keep RGB layered versions of your files for future edits.

The quality and usability of any of these promotional posters will solve one of the first and biggest problems a promoter has! Get a great-looking poster/flyer to promote your event. With minimal skill, you can have a great-looking event poster that will have fans and sponsors alike excited. If you take your branding to the next level there are so many elements within this poster that you can transfer over to an entire host of event collateral for social media, google ad words, Facebook ads, postcards, flyers, event banners, the winners check, etc. We built and launched a website & marketing plan around this poster, which was voted Short Track Website & Marketing Plan of the Year by Speed 51. We had the plan and execution on lock, this poster allowed us to go to marketing quicker since the lead time was less than optimal.

With a little effort, you can adapt this to your own brand and have something that is crisp and clean, It is sooooo good no one will ever know you started with a template! The template part helps with those of us who have all of that event information in our head but can’t figure out where or how to best lay it out.
